DC was no longer the capital of the most powerful country in the world it was a wasteland. Barely a functional town created out of the rubble that ensued in the Great War. It almost pained Vagus to see it in such a condition, almost. To him it was places of pilfer and profit. Most people gave a cursory glance to what happened to all the national artifacts when Brightblood took over, they did take all of the bullion after all. What many people ignore is that there are very few accounts of them recovering anything else exist. Which means it was done in secret or not at all. The shadow liked to think the latter. So sure maybe it constituted him as a treasure hunter, but with hundreds of millions of dollars resting just below where he was now enticed him to no end. It would be like dangling one of those feather things in front of a cat. This treasure was a real thing though, he had found proof of that and much more. If this was a real thing, it would be his greatest find and make him richer than a king. Though he couldn’t meet the contact in his shadow form, that would break the illusion.
Vagus loved shopping for a new body, it was so much fun to just have a choice over body you had. Very few were able to say they had that selection. So when he chose a man that looked like he could handle the rigors of exploring he knew that it was time to deploy the bait. Thankfully for Vagus, vampires requiring to be out at night was something of an improvement since not very many people in his time were out at night in DC otherwise. So he stuck to the shadows, watching, waiting for the man to cross in front of an ally way. When the poor guy finally did, a creature rose from the shadow cast by him onto the street, and tackled him into the alley. Vagus followed not far behind and peered at the man who was now lying on the concrete. Then came the bonding: where Vagus matched his body up with his and took over. It was very like stepping into a suit made of flesh and was always easier if they weren’t moving down the road. Thankfully no one asked about the fiasco that had taken place; they all seemed satisfied when the man had walked out from the ally way brushing himself off mumbling. “Damn it Jonny, I curse the day you learned magic. Making me look like a damn fool.” Before walking off in the direction he was heading before it had happened.
He had changed his clothes to a skin tight black shirt that looked like it could be made from the same material as a scuba suit. It clung nicely to his toned body and he had already received several requests for a name or number. Fortunately he had shood them off by bringing upt he fact that he was homosexual. He wasn’t in reality, but Vagus couldn’t have any interruptions when he had planned to meet his contact at the café he was currently sitting at. He was highly referred and seemed like the kind of man he could use, but all he could do up till that point was wait, and he could wait until this body rotted into death.
