Background:

Rhys was born in the hills of Ireland, before they were Ireland. His parents were seen as gods to the ancient Pict people who lived there, although they were just Celestials. His father was an Incubus, and his mother was a Leanensidhe. His youth was full of turmoil, though he does not quite remember just how long ago it was. Being small and studious, did little to endear him to his brutish and warlike Pict neighbors. Though they saw his parents as gods, his parents were never seen with him, so his identity went, for the most part, unknown. The resulting beatings and fights tortured the little boy.

He always seemed partial to books which angered his father. Not because Rhys was not the warrior, but because it divided the young demon's attention away from learning how to manipulate the emotions of others. Instead the young man learned the ways of Dream-walking, and lulling others into a deep sleep to accommodate his dream-gift. A throw-back to the origin of Incubus and Succubus powers. Unlike most of his race, he fed not on active emotion, but the suppressed emotions hidden in the dreamworlds and subconscious.

Sometime after adulthood, he walked into the dreams of a god. Which one, he will not say, nor will the deity in question. When the deity discovered an invader upon their dreams, it was initially enraged. Though it quickly decided that the demon-invader had it's uses elsewhere, rather than a corpse. It bestowed upon him a spark of the divine, elevating him to Godhood.

An unknown amount of time later, he found the one whom would become known simply "Nightmare." He fell in love with her, teaching her the skills of dreamwalking, though she often used them to bring terror to those she visited. He saw within them a balance of fear and joy. He imparted some of his own divine essence unto her, and they thrived for many centuries.

Until, while walking the other's dreams, Nightmare's physical body was beset upon by ignorant people, and was murdered. Trapping Rhys in the Dreamworlds, for many millennium. His recent emergence was met by him with equal parts joy, sorrow, trepidation, and horror. He lost his love, but has no way to exact revenge. So he sits, watches, and makes notes in the small, blank notebook she bequeathed to him.
