Who do you work for?:
Brightblood (private sector)
Theme song:
"Outside" - Staind
Physical/Psychological Description:
As with a coin, there are two sides to the man named Vance. On one hand he resembles the same hideous night-dwelling creature as in the movie Nosferatu, sores oozing with pus, lesions, and boils scattered about his nearly emaciated body. His face has many noticeable burn scars on them (including all over 3/4ths of his body), so his face is in short a mosaic of pinks, reds, and blacks in patchy spots and they also tend to constantly throb. His abnormally green eyes are surrounded by dark ill-looking circles and a long scar from shrapnel marrs his already distasteful appearance. The cuticles on his fingers are cracked and bloodied and fairly long fingernails are reminiscent of some old school witch. Vance's frame is for the most part thin leaving the factor of deception behind when it comes to him showing displays of strength. He may not be bodybuilder but he can surprise most when he's able to lift the front of a small car with ease off its two front wheels.
On the other hand Vance has maintained the ability to deceive others by using his former appearance as a human to mask his true self. The only time he uses it is when he knows he will need to divulge information from humans etc. They tend to not like staring at a horrific sight straight in the face; Vance in his human form is a little on the muscular side, still skinny, covered in scars, and he keeps the same harsh stare. When conversing with other people, bitter is how he comes off as. He's very gruff in his choice of words and demeanor and isn't very easily approachable. Vance always looks for the opportunity to make jabbing jokes at others often to ruin their pride but most of the time it's to see just how far he can push them around and get away with it; the best part is he often doesn't care for comebacks and is excellent at tuning people out. He's not involved in the war to make any friends--he'll go as far as to backstab the Brightbloods if they push their luck since he's involved in the exchange of high quality information. His heart is often in the right place, he has an odd way of showing it through the dislike and snappy commentary. Ever since a certain day, Vance has been unable to touch, or feed off of women, and he will actively defend them (providing his own life isn't in jeporady), despite him being an obnoxious, sexist jerk. However he does have a soft spot if someone was to stick around him long enough it's just finding it that's hard.

Background:
Völund Issac Tegner was born in Malmö, Sweden in the year 1919. The Great Depression struck during his childhood years. Due to the severity of the Depression, young Tegner was forced to watch all of his friends slowly starve to death; he too often went days without much of any food if he had anything at all, cramped into a small home with several other families since space was a fastly consumed resource as well. This occurrence lead Völund into not taking anything more than he needed, and he still holds strongly to his Swedish traditions. He moved away from Malmö when his father got another job in America. This was a turning point for the nine year-old boy who continued his education in Chicago, Illinois.
Teachers continually had issues with pronouncing his name; thus, the nickname "Vance" was given to him--he didn't approve of it much, but over the years he allowed it to become a name that stuck, at least with his classmates. Vance never liked social interactions, in part because of his own Swedish accent. Kids made fun of him many times. The older he got the more into books he became. His father injured himself at work and then subsequently contracted polio. At that time there was no cure for the illness and Vance, who had been very much attached to both his parents made a promise to himself that he would become a doctor when he was older. Sadly enough Jonas Solk made the cure only a couple of years after Vance's father died.
He was drafted into the army in his twenties and served a few months as part of their logistics branch. An ambush on the fort he was in left Vance with a large scar gash on the left side of his face. The shrapnel embedded and later removed into/from his eye was just barely far enough away to prevent him from being blinded entirely in that side of his face. He had been going to school then but had to wait until his time was up in the army for him to resume his studies. He found that microbiology was his calling and stuck to that idea well into the years of college he attended. Other people weren't so successful with getting to know him; Vance developed a strong dislike for Americans simply because he felt like he had no time to waste when there were diseases still out there that had no cure.
He was on the pinnacle of a grand discovery in his thirties, having obtained his PhD in the microbio field. This caused a great amount of stress as he attempted to get everything filed, recorded, and submitted via an essay on his findings. During this time he was to watch his niece as his brother left for vacation. She had asked one too many things and Vance accidentally snapped and he can't recall how it happened but he killed his niece whom he had adored. Feeling like it was a heavy sin he took her body to a nearby lake and deposited it into the murky depths; Vance then went to a church to confess his sins. A fire erupted inside the building and nearly trapped Vance inside. He received many degree burns from the incident and it was questionable about his survival. Though once he had managed to pull his burning body outside a strange individual had calmed him and called the paramedics.
It was several weeks later that Vance was resting in the hospital's burn ward, in intense pain and under a heavy amount of morphine that the stranger once again appeared in the middle of the night. There was still much healing to be done with his skin; however, the mysterious figure kidnapped Vance from the ward and took him into his own hiding place. The stranger cared for Vance so much that he Embraced him. Once awoken, the stranger introduced himself as Mr. Lockheart. The following several months were spent with Lockheart guiding Vance, teaching him how to use his newfound vampiric powers to the best of their ability. At one point Lockheart felt like Vance was "ready for the world" and set him up to work alongside others of his kind. He joined with other Nossies, all new bloods, and stayed with them for several years. At one point they went on a mission concerning Tremere and everyone else in his group was killed; thus, Vance now feels it's his responsibility to lead any future coteries-- and this partially explains his harsh refusal to let anyone get emotional close to him.
Lockheart periodically checks up on Vance, however he hasn't heard or seen his Sire for quite some time. His whereabouts are highly secretive, as any Nossies' hiding place should be, but his Sire is rumored to have a hand in nearly every part of the U.S. . Vance worries slightly about the lack of communication between himself and his Sire but the research he currently does for Brightblood is helping him keep distracted.
