Tutor of the Classical Arts

[Yves Arcenaux]

Yves had been wandering for so long now it had been a while since he had ever thought of settling down.  Ever since he had lost Marista he had never been one for sitting still.  But now that he had found her, he decided that perhaps it was time to stop the endless wandering from town to town, playing for his supper and start earning a living. 

And what better way to earn a living than to do what he loved to do.  It had taken all the money he could muster, but he managed to buy himself a small studio just off the main strip in New York.  It wasn't much but it had all he needed.  A room to sleep upstairs and a large room where he could put up a few students who he would teach how to play the violin.  He wondered as he stood there, taking it all in, if anyone would still have that hunger to seek out the old tradition, the classical lessons of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms...?  If not he knew enough of some other violinists that had made a name for themselves in the late 20th to earth 21st centuries that he might be able to instill some interest in the people that came through the door.

He pulls out his cell phone and dials up Raph.  If he answered or got a machine he would leave this message "Hello my friend, I have decided to start a business for myself once more.  Would you happen to be able to help me find a few clients that might be interested in learning how to play the violin?"

When Raphael was but Eight his cold father (not his real one as he would eventually learn) sent him to learn the violin from a most elegant teacher. Monsieur Arceneaux was a gifted violinist and Raphael played all his life never forgetting his lesson so of course he would bring his own son, and young Alice, his boss  Dametrius's daughter, to the mans place. Pushing the wheelchair he gestured for Gabriel to ring the bell.

Alice was small for her age, and it was hard to believe that she was actually the twin of Benjamin Gauge as the only thing they had in common was their unnatural eyes. Though hers are yellow rather than blue. She looks up at Raphael, "Thank you for bringing me here." She says.

[Yves Arcenaux]

Yves was up in the studio, making a list of things he needed for his small living space, when he heard the bell ring. He smiles and makes his way downstairs to open the door "Ah Raphael, you got my call. Tres bon. Do come in. I have yet to get some furniture but it will come in time." He looks down at the children "And who do we have here? Hello. Do you two wish to learn how to play the violin?" he smiles at them brightly, eager to share his knowledge and skill with a new generation

Raphael grinned. "It is no trouble Alice. your father honors me to trust me with such precious cargo. ah Yves!" he addressed the man when he opened the door and moved to pull him into a friendly hug. "I brought my son, Gabriel, and Miss Alice, Dametrius's daughter. Gabriel is dissatisfied with his music class at school to i plan teleport him to you at the end of his day of classes every day. It works out for me as i do miss when hes away and Alice had also expressed interest in learning.."

[Yoya DuSang]

"Bonjour monsieur, comment allez-vous aujourd'hui? Je suis Alice James. Ce est vraiment un plaisir de rencontrer celui qui étudie un tel art." She says bowing her head. She plays with her fingers. She was surprised that she had been allowed out. She had the thin frame of Yoya with the same stark white hair and pianist fingers.


Translation:

Hello sir, how are you today? I am Alice James. It is truly a pleasure to meet one who studies such a fine art.

Yves smiles at Alice as she greets him. It was nice to hear someone speak his own language after having been wandering the land of America. It had been a long time to have someone who was so fluent in it to talk to. "ce est un tel plaisir de vous rencontrer Alice. Je suis heureux de savoir que vous avez un tel désir d'apprendre ainsi." he looks to Raph then "I can only hope that I can entertain your son that he might truly appreciate the arts as you and I do" he smiles brightly "Thank you"


*it is such a pleasure to meet you Alice. I am pleased to know that you have such a desire to learn as well.

Raphael smiled, he loved that they were all fluent in his native tongue. He didnt normally get this expsure to the culture he loved elsewhere. He ushered Gabriel towards Yves and he quietly pulled his own violin from its case. "I hope to learn well from you Monsieur." he bowed and Raphael laughed. "Weve arrived at a fine place in our lives havent we? I never before thought i could bring my child to learn from you."

Alice looks at the group and stays quiet for a long while, "My father is willing to buy me a violin but he would like to know from you, where should we buy one... or get one made for me." She says with a shrug. She sits back, and waits.

[Yves Arcenaux]

Yves looks from Raph to Alice as she mentions needing a violin "Well you are in luck little one. I happen to be a crafter of instruments as well. Why i still carry my very first violin that I ever made with me to this very day." he walks over to the small closet where he put his instrument for the time being and takes out the worn case that had seen many years of travel and sets it on the small table there "I could just as easily make one for you. And since you would be a student of mine I will make this for you for free to practice with" he opens the case and pulls out his cherished treasure, the wood was old but lovingly cared for and the strings were fresh "It will take me a few weeks to complete one for you but it will give us time to get acquainted oui?"

Raphael pulled out his own violin. "I had another one made for me after i broke the one Yves here gave me but it was a treasured artifact of mine. They say nero fiddled while rome burned, that he was mad, and i assure you that could not be. I mean besides the anachronisms, no one is ALL mad when they play. Music brings clarity."He looked to Gabriel and nodded. "You listen to whatever Monsieur Arceneaux says."

[Yoya DuSang]

Alice looks at him, and tilts her head, "You would... simply make me one?" She asks before looking at Gabe, "You are quiet." She says.

[Yves Arcenaux]

Yves nods as Alice asked her question. "But of course. If you truly wish to learn this art, you must have an instrument that is fit for you. None of this..." he waves his hand the air for a moment "one size fits all stuff. No, to be truly great, you must have something that feels like a part of you" and with that he puts the violin on his shoulder and begins playing Flight of the Bumblebee to prove his point.

Raphael lit up like a child and lifted his own violin to his shoulder so he too could begin to play chiming in. It was so fun playing with an old master like Yves. Gabriel took a seat and opened up his own case as alice commented on how quiet he was. "I was letting Monsieur Arceneaux speak, father says hes very good." he quieted again to listen to them play.

Amice watches in silence and awe.
